and welcome back to cbs morning morning-- 4 morning news. 42 degrees as we look at buildings in down down den -- downtown denver. it's early we have a hour back. an extra hour of sleep felt pretty good. two studies suggest people who bike regularly to work or for fun are less likely to develop cardiovascular trouble. doctors found biking a half- hour each week protection. and new research finds not getting enough sleep may cause people to eat more the next day. doctors in the uk looked at 11 previous studies and found sleep deprived people consumed on average an extra 385 calories the following day with most calories coming from higher fat and lower protein foods. and researchers at massachusetts general hospital say smoking significantly reduces the life span of people

,, ,, welcome back to cbs4 morning news. it's 6:54. 42 degrees. it's one of those days you want a jacket or your favorite broncos sweatshirt. you will need it throughout the day although we have sun shine on the way. fall temperatures are finally coming in to the colorado area. well the huge balloons that glide through manhattan on thanksgiving day are not easy to control as you might imagine. hundreds of volunteer balloon handleers train throughout the year to make sure that the holiday parade is a success.

us inside saturday's dress rehearsal in new york. >> reporter: it takes military like precision. >> you stay to the outside you take 3 steps forward. >> reporter: and hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers to fly the giant balloons that are the centerpieces of the macy's thanksgiving day parade. >> come on we are moving. we are moving. >> reporter: michael now serves as a pilot after 10 years of volunteering. supervising those assigned to the back of the new diary of the whimpy kid balloon. >> i want you to listen to us. >> reporter: this year he is ging to him as dot-- his daughter and three sons who will fly in from california for the parade. >> watch that obstacle. >> you don't want tonight one to instruct or yell at them or tell them no so it's a challenge for me. >> reporter: more teams of volunteers were challenged with charlie brown and the trolls. and two smaller balloons, felix the cat the parade's first character balloon in 1927 and
